The transition toward a sustainable electricity system requires strategic planning based on data science, sector and market modeling, and technical scenario analysis, with a focus on gender equity and social inclusion. In Latin America and Mexico, there are unique challenges such as growing demand, the integration of renewable energy, and the need to ensure a reliable supply. These challenges demand a robust approach in which the use of data analysis and modeling tools plays a crucial role. These tools allow for the simulation of scenarios, the optimization of system expansion and operation, and the design of strategies that strengthen the efficiency, competitiveness, and reliability of the national electricity system, while advancing decarbonization and meeting climate goals.
Data-driven decision-making is fundamental to accelerating the energy transition in the region and ensuring the sustainable development of the electricity sector. At IDEA, we develop tools and strategies that enable decision-makers, regulators, and key stakeholders to design effective and viable policies for the transformation of the electricity system.
Our main lines of action include:
Modeling: We develop advanced models for designing future scenarios for renewable energy integration, network expansion and modernization, public policy implementation, and system operation simulation, in order to technically and economically assess their impact on system reliability and stability.
Regulation: We analyze and propose regulatory frameworks and market mechanisms that facilitate the integration of renewable energy, enhance system flexibility, and promote appropriate economic signals and actions to encourage investment in sustainable electricity infrastructure
Market Instruments: We evaluate financial and market mechanisms that incentivize the energy transition and the strengthening of the electricity system, promoting sustainable investment models aligned with decarbonization and energy security goals
Just Energy Transition: We design strategies to ensure that the benefits of the electricity sector’s transition reach all people and communities, promoting inclusion and equity.
Data Analysis and System Monitoring. We generate, process, and analyze key data on the operation of the electricity sector, assessing system reliability, demand evolution, and the performance of generation sources, with the aim of strengthening transparency and improving energy sector planning.
